5 ways to stay connected with your family during the holidays

Post Date - Dec 20, 2022

The holidays are the busiest time of the year, so it’s likely that you’re feeling busier than ever and also missing your loved ones more than usual. Here are some of our favorite tips for staying connected with your family during the holidays.

1. Social media

Social media often gets a bad rap, but it is really a good way to stay connected with people. It’s a way you can share about your travels as a trucker and see updates from friends and family. Most platforms also have a messaging system so you can chat directly with individuals. We also find that it’s a great place to connect with other drivers.

2. Video chat

This is our absolute favorite way for drivers to connect with family, especially since it’s something that hasn’t always been available in the past. You can video chat to see your child’s holiday concert performances, to check in on family gatherings and simply connect with your loved ones on a regular basis. Texts and phone calls are great too, but there’s something special about being able to talk to someone face to face.

3. Phone calls

Phone calls make it really easy to stay in touch since nearly everyone has a cell phone these days. You can make quick phone calls just to say hi or to check in or set aside longer times to call in the evening when you’re off the road for the day. And remember, you can add multiple people to calls easily to get a whole group convo going!

4. Snail mail

One thing we love about the trucking life is the ability to travel all over the country and see many different places you might not have the opportunity to see otherwise. Make it fun for your friends or family by sending cool postcards from your travels along the way. Or write a heartfelt letter to someone special to you - there’s something really special about getting a handwritten note in the mail.

5. Keep your cab homey

Bring some comfort from home to your cab. Family photos, small decorations, keepsakes or any other reminders of your loved ones can help keep you feeling positive. Some truck drivers say they use the same air freshener scent in their cab that their family has at home to give them a subtle reminder of family!
